In the beginning, American Toy and Furniture Company specialized in wooden peg toys and doll furniture. An advertisement in 1954 read “Choicest woods selected from our thousand-acres of standing timber; a short truck haul to our saw-mill.” Sears was the main distributor of ATF toys. In the later years, ATF received the license from the Disney organization to produce woodworking sets featuring The Mickey Mouse Club.
Note: On January 26, 1983, the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled a toy made by American Toy and Furniture Company, Inc. that was sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co. The toy, a children’s play gym, was sold from 1976 through July 1980. In a July 10, 2001 update, the statement “Firm is out of business. Do not use these products. Please discard or destroy these products” was added to the announcement.
